At Chai n Chilli, located at 181/183 King St in the heart of Melbourne, every meal is more than just food—it’s a journey into the soulful heart of Indian home cooking. Born from the shared culinary passion of Sonali and Kiran Joshi, this vegetarian hotspot is a tribute to authentic Maharashtrian cuisine and the kind of flavours that make you nostalgic for every home-cooked memory.
Sonali, lovingly known as Chef Mumbaikar, brings over a decade of experience in the food and service industry. Her food philosophy is simple—cook with love, from scratch, using fresh ingredients and traditional spices that awaken the senses. Inspired by the kitchens of her grandmothers, mother, aunts, and in-laws, Sonali’s recipes are deeply rooted in family traditions and regional diversity. Her cooking combines the richness of heritage with the warmth of heartfelt hospitality.
From the sweet comfort of Puran Polis to the creamy delight of homemade Shrikhand and the festive flakiness of chirote, every bite at Chai n Chilli celebrates flavours rarely found outside India. And it’s all just about taste—it’s about telling a story through spices, textures, and aromas that linger long after the last spoonful.
Established with a modest start as a catering service, Chai n Chilli has grown into a beloved dining destination for those who crave real Indian food, minus the shortcuts. We don’t believe in pre-packaged spice mixes or generic sauces. We serve honest, fresh food, just like it’s made back home.
So, whether you’re a homesick foodie, a curious Melbourne local, or simply someone who appreciates the joy of well-made vegetarian meals, visit Chai n Chilli. Open Monday to Saturday from 10:30 AM to 8:45 PM, we promise meals made with love and memories waiting to be made.
